Everyone is always crying foul when it comes to RPGS. For me, I’ve noticed that the industry has been flooded with RPGs, for a while now, from the consoles to the portable systems. And the future is only looking brighter. There is a great deal of selection for the fan of the genre to choose from. On every system. Even still the PS2 (P4).Another thing is, if funds allow so, there is reason to own every system. If funds prevent such an expense, the RPG genre is becoming the one exclusivity that might help your system decision choice, outside of price.
Already, there is Mistwalker with their fine, unique editions to the mix with the titles: Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey, and from Namco Trusty Bell err… I mean Eternal Sonata (soon to be released in Japan on the PS3). Not to mention the news that Tri-Ace will be making an exclusive new Star Ocean game, and another exclusive title called Infinite Undiscovery. Plus there is another exclusive title from the Namco Tales group, and more to come from Mistwalker. All exclusively, for now, on the 360.
Nintendo has always supplied us with challenging and fun games from Intelligent Designs. The Fire Emblem games have always been top notch, and the Advance War games are always a a worthy purchase. And of course the 2-D Paper Mario games are a fun run though. Outside of the always classic Zelda games. Also, it seems Square Enix has jumped back on the Nintendo wagon with their Dragon Quest series.
Sony, well, there’s a game called FF XIII and it’s many spin-offs, which is an exclusive that I’m sure many people are highly anticipating. And the PSP is dishing out a fair amount of selection. Every thing from re-releases to new often over-looked titles from X-Seed. The PSP has more RPGs than it’s console counterpart. Of course, for nostalgia purposes, the PS network is re-releasing old RPGs for a low price that people might have missed out on. Playable on the PS3 and transferable to the PSP.
So it seems the RPG genre is entering a new phase. Full of innovation, new stories, and who knows what else for gamers of all sorts and ages. Of course, there is news that has been missed, and all which has yet to be discovered.
